সকাল থেকেই নাহার মঞ্জিলে একটা উৎসবের আমেজ লেগে আছে। ঈদ পর্ব বাদে সাধারণত তিন ধরণের উপলক্ষ পেলে বাঙ্গালীরা উৎসবে মেতে ওঠে। প্রথমটি জন্ম, দ্বিতীয়টি বিবাহ, আর তৃতীয়টি মৃত্যু- অর্থাৎ মৃত ব্যক্তির চল্লিশা উপলক্ষে উৎসব। নাহার মঞ্জিলে আজকের উৎসবের উপলক্ষ এই তিনটির কোনটিই না। তবে তৃতীয় উপলক্ষটির সাথে বেশ ভালরকমের যোগসাজশ আছে। এই বাড়ির উৎসবটি মৃত্যুর প্রিপারেশন উপলক্ষে। সব কিছুতেই একটু আধটু প্রিপারেশনের দরকার আছে। যেমন জন্ম উৎসবের প্রিপারেশন শুরু হয়- ফুল শয্যার নিশীথে।

As I look from my balcony in the evening of a calm summer day, I spot fireflies blinking their lights as they dart from here to there. The tree branches are heavy with dark leaves. The wind is still. It asks me to contemplate and reflect. It calls me as I gaze. Out of the darkness, a romantic aura presents itself. Recent happenings and current circumstances regarding relationships don’t leave my mind. They wreak havoc within me. It is in stark contrast to the solitude and tranquility of nature.

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়ার সময় হাবিব নামের এক সহপাঠি প্রায়ই বলত, পাশ করার পরে আমাদের যখন দেখা হবে তখন হয়ত আমাদের সাথে থাকবে বউ ও বাচচারা। প্রত্যেক মানুষই ভবিষ্যত নিয়ে ভাবে,সবারই স্বপ্ন থাকে।আমারও এরূপ প্রত্যাশা থাকা অস্বাভাবিক নয়। বন্ধুদের বউয়েরা আমার বউয়ের সাথে যাওয়া-আসা করবে, বাচচারা পরস্পরকে চিনবে , বন্ধুত্বকে এক প্রজন্ম থেকে পরবর্তী প্রজন্মে নিয়ে যাবে এরূপ স্বপ্ন তো থাকতেই পারে।

I am not a conformist when it comes to the definition of race by the skin color. I refuse to identify any human group by the conventional skin colors – white, black, red, yellow, and brown. Out of sheer frustration my wife and I decided to try our luck in the States. So, in June ‘91 we packed our bags, loaded the kids in the car and left Canada hunting for opportunities down south. My daughter was 5 and my son was only 6 months old at that time. We decided to stop at every major city along the eastern coastline going south towards Miami and would come back up along the western coastline. We would settle down anywhere that we liked, if there was an opportunity for me. We went as far down down as Miami stopping at various cities and as we were coming up along the western coastline of Florida, we both fell in love with Tampa. We drove into a gorgeous neighborhood with manicured lawns. Looked like a million-dollar neighborhood. There was a house for sale and I called the realtor who said asking price for that home was $140,000! We drove around the neighborhood

সেদিন হঠাৎ করেই 'বৃক্ষকথা' নামক ফেসবুক গ্রুপের একটি পোষ্টে চোখ আটকে গেল। পোষ্টটি ছিল রংপুর ক্যাডেট কলেজের ক্যাডেটদের করা দৃষ্টিনন্দন একটি বাগান নিয়ে। বাগানের সেই ছবি আমাকে প্রায় পঁয়ত্রিশ বছর আগে ঘটে যাওয়া একটি ঘটনা কিংবা দূর্ঘটনার কথা মনে করিয়ে দিল। অবাক হয়ে খেয়াল করলাম, মাঝে এতগুলো বছর পেরিয়ে গেছে অথচ মনে হচ্ছে এইতো সেদিনের কথা। তখন আমরা ক্লাস নাইনে পড়ি। হঠাৎ করেই কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষের সিদ্ধান্ত, আমাদের হাউজ বিল্ডিং-এর সামনে যে বিশাল লন আছে সেখানে বাগান করতে হবে।

Easter Island_ a place so remote from the rest of the world, in the middle of nowhere yet so fascinating, so interesting and so amazing. I first read about it in the National Geographic magazine many year’s ago and wanted to visit the place. Finally, that time came. In my recent world tour, I had the opportunity to go there. I flew to Easter Island from Galapagos Island. It was a long trip. Although both the islands were in the South pacific, there were no direct flights between the two places. From the Galápagos Islands I had to fly to Quito, the capital of Equador and then to Lima and then to Santiago and finally to Easter Island. The Island is part of Chile and 2500 km away from it. Easter Island is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world.
